The bar/ lounge was definitely crowded tonight. All the guests were buzzing when a special card announcing a "Spectacular event" on the stage of the extravagant lounge floor was delivered to all occupied rooms, was stirring everyone up.
The people were wrestling, nervously giggling the ice of their glasses.
A silence fell over the drunken guests as a drum roll sounded. The Curtain rolled back to reveal a tall man in a green suit, bowler hat and a purple, very thin mask across his eyes. He spun his cane as he spoke.
"Greetings Gothamities in this most desperate hour of uncertainty! I'm the Riddler!"
He was met with horrid laughter and jeers. He was used to that. Soon he would be accustomed to their screams.
"Well, lets see! How about some riddles tonight on my one man show, yes you know what those are? You solve them when you are not drinking yourselves into a coma! Its time for one! Oh yes Indeed!" He said rather calmly for a lunatic.
"There is something that is nothing, but it has a name. It joins our walks; it joins our talks; it plays in every game. What is it? Any Idea?" No answers
"Your shadow, Dullards! How about There was a man walking on a sandy desert and every time he looked behind him, he didn't see any footprints; there were no strong winds on that day. Explain." No answers, just chatter.
"The man is blind. Much like all of you. You see my lovely assistance took the liberty of relieving you of you wallets and such." Two vixens gladly dressed in in green found themselves around him.
"Oh and give my regards to Mr. Wayne for the cash reverse for this hotel, they kept quite badly hidden in that clunky vault. I'm set now. Tootles"
In a cliche puff of purple smoke the man and is comrades disappeared leaving only his voice a conundrum of shocking jeer and screams.
"I read that the Bat is back. No doubt due to my activities of late." He said, full of himself." Now hear this, rodent.
What is hard to beat?!"
His voice faded as the lounge exploded in flames, in fire. Lives were indeed lost as the Ritz was now burning.

Peter had moved like a bat out of hell to get to the Ritz.
"Come on! Come on! Faster!" He yelled at himself, thwipping and swinging as hard as he could.
"Oh no..." He whispered seeing the fleeing civilians and burning top floor of the building.
Only the top floor's on fire. Peter thought quickly. I can still save the rest...
Moving like lightning, Spider-Man swung to the highest point of the building and dived in, smashing a window and keeping low to the ground to avoid smoke.
He shot many webs, extinguishing fires. Frantically searching he found a springler system activation on a wall and started it. water poured in to the rooms of the top floor, flooding them, putting out the fires and then pouring out the open windows, leaving a wet storey of the building.
Peter shook with fear at the prospect of losing so many lives.
"DAMMIT!!!" He yelled, punching a wall after it was evident that he was the only living soul on that floor.
"You were too cocky! You didn't listen properly! He said Hostel!" Peter continued, before falling to the ground in exhaustion.

A madman was threatening Gotham with an odd pattern of puzzle based crimes. He had announced it, blatantly, to the citizens, hoping to inspire fear and panic among the city.
Only one had bothered solve the clue that the madman had left behind. Only one wasn't afraid of what this new breed of insanity was capable of.
Batman crashed through the near window of where the unconcious Spider-Man layed, defeated. He had failed to stop The Riddler's trap, and now The Riddler was going to make sure Spider-Man payed for it.
No. Not in his city.
Picking up the webslinger, Batman threw him over his shoulder, before firing a grapnel line at the ceiling. Pulling up, Batman kicked high as the two sailed out of another window, just in time to avoid a flaming timber. Landing on a near rooftop, Batman took out two grenades, and threw them into the window.
*PHOOM*
The entire floor was misted with a chemical that had stopped the flames just before it could level the entire building. Batman turned, putting Spider-Man down on the roof, before looking back at the building. He sneered, seeing the damage The Riddler had inflicted.
No more. This wouldn't happen again to Gotham. He wouldn't allow it. Turning, Batman looked down at the unconcious Spider-Man again.
"Wake up, Parker. We need to talk.", Batman stated, as the fire department rushed to the scene below them.

"Urr... Erm..." Peter groaned, tired and hurting. "Wha... what's going on... Bruce?"
He blinked beneath the mask, barely able to see.
"Wake up Peter, or the Riddler wins." Batman scornfully shook Peter by the shoulders.
"He's already won!" Peter shouted, remembering what had just happened.
"I lost, he won!" Peter's lip quivered under the mask, thinking about all those whose hearts no longer beated.

"No."
Spider-Man's head tilted up, looking at Batman, as he stood, arms acrossed, above the webslinger.
"While I told you that coming to Gotham was a bad idea, you're here anyway. And while you did fail... It's something for later discussion."
Batman almost felt as if he was telling himself this, when he was Parker's age. He needed this kind of talk, back then.
"Don't grieve. If you have time to grieve, The Riddler has time to continue what he's doing. Innocent lives may have been lost, but others... maybe more are sure to follow. We can't allow that. I wont-", Batman's eyes narrowed. "Will you?"

Peter's masked head nodded slowly, looking up at Batman.
"With great power comes great responsiblity..." He whispered to himself.
"Where is that green son of a bitch?" Spider-Man exclaimed, jumping to his feet with newfound strength and enthusiasm.

Batman looked off to the side, masking his expressions as he looked out at the city he had just returned to. He forgot how Gotham looked, from this view.
"His last riddle was 'What is hard to beat?'.", Batman said. "Figure it out."
"Um... Er..."
Spider-Man stayed silent for a minute.
"A drum with a hole in it!", Spider-Man finally exclaimed.
Batman gave a slight nod, despite having found it out long before now.
"Which is why I think he's at the Oil Mill. An oil drum. It can't be beat.", Batman exclaimed.

"Or... does he mean something musical, like the Opera House." Peter remembered the Opera building Alfred had pointed out the first drive through he'd had in Gotham.
It was in the alley beside the Opera House where Bruce's parents had met their end.
"What do you think?"

Batman's expression changed upon mention of the building. It wasn't noticeable, as Batman's back was turned to Spider-Man, aswell as the cowl covering his face... But the mention had an impact, for sure.
...No. Now's not the time, or the place...
Regaining focus, Batman looked back at Spider-Man.
He had a point. Riddler's tip wouldn't have to nessacarily be that complicated. But if they went one route... That would give Riddler to opprotunity to make a move at the other.
They couldn't take the chance.
"Possibly.", Batman stated.
"But it's hard to tell. We'll need to tackle this seperately. I'll go to the Oil Mill. You go to the Opera House. Find anything, alert me with this.", Batman continued, reaching into his belt, grabbing, and throwing Spider-Man a beeper.
"We may not have much time. Are we clear on this?"

THWIP!!!
"Crystal." Peter stated, leaping out in to the dark streets and headed for the Opera House across Gotham.
